Celebrating the Michael Burke Wellbeing Centre in Eye

A special event is being held this Friday July 21 to celebrate the refurbishment of the Michael Burke Wellbeing Centre and to showcase the many voluntary and community groups and services operating from the building.

Everyone is welcome to come along to the centre which is located on Castleton Way next to Hartismere Hospital.

Over the last few months the building has been extensively redecorated, much of the work having been undertaken by NHS volunteers, creating a vibrant community hub and garden to be used by a wide variety of organisations including Hartismere League of Friends, Connect For Health Social Prescribing, MS Support Group, Eye Family Carers, Communities Together and the Eye Archives and Heritage Group.

On the day these local groups will be on hand enabling those attending to learn more about how the health and wellbeing of people in and around Eye is being supported. The Rural Coffee Caravan, a charity aimed at alleviating rural loneliness, will also be present and joining in with the day’s celebrations.

The event takes place from 2 – 4 p.m. and will include an official opening ceremony by Dr Ed Garratt, chief executive of the NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board, along with Dr Dan Poulter MP.

The Eye Bach Choir will be performing on the day.

The Michael Burke Centre first opened in 2019 and has been an important part of the community since then, and it is hoped, that following this refurbishment, its importance as a local hub of health and wellbeing will be boosted even further.

Commenting on the event, Dr Garratt, said: “I am so pleased the work on the centre has been completed and I very much look forward to seeing the results of this redecoration programme.

“I know that since it first opened four years ago the centre has gone from strength to strength and it is a great example of a truly locally focused facility.

“I want to thank everyone who has been involved in making this happen and hope there’s a great turnout on the day to support the voluntary and community groups who’ll be showcasing their fantastic work.”
