A Suffolk GP who authored a booked on his most memorable experiences as a county doctor, is celebrating its success after selling more than 1500 copies and raising in excess of £1200 for the British Red Cross Ukraine Appeal.
Dr Andrew Yager is set to give a talk and reading of excerpts from his book, The Tales of a Suffolk GP, in Waterstones Bury St Edmunds on Thursday November 17 from 4 – 6.30 p.m. – to coincide with the turn-on of the town’s Christmas lights. With proceeds going to charity the event is an opportunity to purchase a Christmas gift that will benefit the people of war-torn Ukraine.
Recently retired he published the book earlier this year, charting his almost forty-year career working for the NHS, starting out at Ipswich Hospital and ending many happy years later at the Botesdale Health Centre on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, curating his experiences into a series of short stories.
Commenting on its success, Dr Yager said: “What began as a personal venture to record some of the highs and lows and ups and downs of my medical career, became a realisation that a published book would be a good way for people to get an insight into general practice and how the NHS has changed over the years.
“What hasn’t changed in my time is the resilience and good humour of my patients and having retired, I can only reflect how lucky I have been to have encountered so many wonderful people.
“I am amazed to have sold 1500 copies, but it also shows the great interest people have in their NHS, and how it is integral to our lives.”
Dr Andrew Yager’s book can be purchased at Waterstones Bury St Edmunds, Diss Bookshop and Wyken Vineyard Bookshop. It can also be purchased from Amazon in book and Kindle format
