The results of the British Medical Association ballot mean that some GPs have voted in favour of taking collective action from today (1 August) for an indefinite period, as part of an ongoing dispute with the Government over funding.
Although this means NHS services are likely to be busier than usual, people are urged not to put off coming forward for medical help and advice.
All the usual sources of help and advice are open for business.
GP practices will remain open and if you have an appointment, you should attend unless informed otherwise. If you need to see a GP or a member of your practice team, you should contact them in the usual way to book an appointment.
You can access urgent medical help and advice 24/7 by visiting NHS 111 Online or by calling NHS 111.
Your local pharmacy is a source of help and advice and you do not need an appointment to speak with the pharmacist. In addition to over-the-counter remedies for minor conditions such as cough, colds, minor burns and scolds, most pharmacies are now able to offer treatment for earache, infected insect bites, impetigo, shingles, sinusitis, sore throats and urinary tract infections, subject to some age restrictions.
Visit the NHS website to read more about how pharmacies can help you and find the pharmacy nearest to you.
Please only go to your hospital’s emergency department or call 999 if your condition is serious or life threatening.
