We’re now in the final fortnight of this season’s COVID vaccination campaign.
Across the Suffolk and north east Essex area 96, 135 people have had the vaccine – and those eligible who have not yet taken up the offer are encouraged to do so by Sunday June 30.
People aged 75 and over (or will be aged 75 by June 30 2024), those living in care homes for older adults, and people with a weakened immune system are eligible for this protection to best keep them safe from the disease which is still prevalent within the community.
Latest figures currently show nine patients at West Suffolk Hospital and 35 patients across Colchester and Ipswich hospitals have tested positive for COVID.
The website www.sneevaccine.org.uk lists almost 30 local walk-in clinics which are taking place before the end of June, where no appointment is required.
For those who prefer to make a booked appointment visit www.nhs.uk
Appointments can also be made via the NHS app or contact your GP practice.
Lucy Archer, from the NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board and who is leading the local COVID vaccination programme, said: “COVID is still very much with us, it hasn’t gone away.
“That is why it so important for those people who are particularly at risk from the disease to get their vaccination before the offer ends.
“It is certainly pleasing that almost 100,000 people across the patch have been vaccinated during this spring programme, giving them and their families the best protection over the coming months.
“There are still many walk-in clinics operating across the area, make a booked appointment or speak to a healthcare professional at your GP practice or pharmacy.”
