North East Essex Health and Wellbeing Alliance has appointed a former Colchester Borough Council leader as its new chair.

Mark Cory will now lead the alliance – a body comprising local authority, healthcare and voluntary organisations working together to improve the health and wellbeing of communities across Colchester and Tendring.

Mark – who lives in Wivenhoe – led Colchester Borough Council between May 2018 and May 2021.

He has also worked as a youth worker, represented patients and carers for an NHS community carer project, and was the patient and public lead representative on the governing body of the former NHS North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group.

Commenting on his appointment, Mark said: “I am delighted to be appointed into this important position.

“I am extremely familiar with the area, having lived and worked in north east Essex for many years.  I also know many of the key partners and representatives that make up the alliance and am fully aware of what is important to local people as well as the challenges that many of our communities face on a daily basis.

“I think there has been so much good work and achievement to date which has been possible through the alliance, thanks to the commitment by all partners to work together for the benefit of our local communities and I look forward to being even more closely involved with this work in the future.”

Laura Taylor-Green, Director, North East Essex Health and Wellbeing Alliance, said: “We are delighted to welcome Mark to the team.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience in healthcare, the voluntary sector and, of course, local government – all of which are now working much more closely together to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.”
