West Bergholt GP surgery opens after major revamp

The West Bergholt GP surgery has reopened after a major refurbishment and expansion, meaning its 8000 patients now have access to a much improved and expanded range of health care services.

The building has been given a complete overhaul so that patients will receive care and treatment in a modern, 21st century facility and staff can work in a healthier and more pleasant environment.

The work includes the creation of seven new clinical consulting rooms, making a total of 15, so that patients can access a wider range of treatments, such as physiotherapy, without the need to travel.  The new rooms will also create more space so that an extended mix of health professionals can work in the community, including paramedics, nurse practitioners and pharmacists. The building is also now air conditioned.

The administrative staff has a new workplace in an attic conversion which will help ensure the practice, which is rated “Good” by the Care Quality Commission, to continue to operate smoothly and support its patients with their health and wellbeing.

Dr Hasan Chowhan, GP partner who has overseen the renovation work, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our new facility, which puts us in a very good place for the future.

“Being able to expand the building means we can offer more services closer to home and the new brighter space is certainly an improvement on the old, out-of-date environment.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming patients here and hope they’ll agree that the last 8 months of renovation work have been worth it.”

Rachel Beales, the surgery’s practice manager, says: “I want to thank our patients for their understanding over the past few months.  We know how important our GP practice is to the community, but in order to achieve this fantastic outcome it was necessary to close so the work could be completed as quickly as possible.

“We’re now open for business again and are thrilled to be seeing patients come in through the doors once more.”
